ROY STANLEY MEMORIAL SHOOTOUT

Well Represented

Picture
The 2012 NCAA Tournament once again brought excitement to millions of living rooms this year.  It also marked another year that the Roy Stanley Memorial Shootout was well represented.

Alumni from our Shootout included Quinn Cook (Duke), Keith Hornsby (UNC Asheville), PJ Hairston (UNC), Dez Wells (Xavier), Lorenzo Brown (NC State), JJ Mann (Belmont), Colton Christian (Michigan), Doron Lamb (Kentucky), Baye Keita (Syracuse), Damarcus Harrison (BYU), Deshawn Painter (NC State), and Troy Dainels (VCU).  Members of NCAA tournament teams that were hurt, redshirting, or sitting out because of NCAA transfer rules include Juwan Staten (WVU), Josh Henderson (Vanderbilt), Marshall Plumlee (Duke), Luke Hancock (Louisville), and Maurice Creek (Indiana).

For an unprecedented 2nd year in a row one of our Roy Stanley Memorial Shootout Alumni was a part of the National Championship team.  Doron Lamb (Kentucky) was a major part of the Wildcat title team and he also represents our first member of our Alumni to be drafted into the NBA.  Lamb went 42nd overall to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Honor in a name change!

The Kiwanis Club of Salem is proud to have WDBJ7 partner with the club this year and in the future.  Through many discussions, we are formally changing the name of the Valley Shootout to honor a late local news anchor and community icon.

The new name for the Shootout is now the Roy Stanley Memorial Shootout!  More to come later on this change...

Shootout Alumni represented well in NCAA TOURNAMENT!

Roy Stanley Memorial Shootout

Welcome to the home page of the Roy Stanley Memorial Shootout.  We are excited once again to host some of the nation's top teams, coaches, and players.  The 2012 field will once again feature some of the nations best as well as our local talent from the Roanoke Valley.

Not only does this event feature great basketball, it also serves as a fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club of Salem.  A service organization made up of volunteers, the Kiwanis Club of Salem has many projects year round that benefit individuals that are less fortunate.  Through community awareness this Shootout touches so many lives in the Roanoke Valley each year.  We are proud to host a day of great basketball, community spirit, and competition.  Best of luck to all the teams in the 2011 Salem Kiwanis Valley Shootout.
